Fix Your Tire by Yourself or Have It Professionally Repaired?

Driving down the road only to have that little light go on in your car that says that you have low tire pressure can be a bit frustrating. Depending on how bad your tire is and where you are, you may either want to attempt to do a DIY tire repair or take it into a shop to have it worked on.

When You Should DIY It

There are good times to try to do a job on your own and there are times when it makes more sense to call a professional. If you are in one of the following scenarios, then you may just want to DIY the tire repair job.

Flat Tire: If you are stuck on the side of the road with a completely flat tire and there's no one around, you can just put a spare on yourself if you know how. If you have no idea how to change your tire, then you may just want to call a professional, but if you have done it before then you know how easy it can be. When you are changing your tire to a spare, just remember that it's only a temporary solution, and it's not something you should drive long distances on. As soon as you can take your car into a professional tire repair shop, the better.

Low Air: Depending on how low the air is in your tire, you can typically just add a little bit more air to it at the gas station as long as you have your tire pressure gauge on you. To see how much your specific tires need, you can usually just open the driver's side door and it should say right there on the side of it. As long as you don't go over that amount,  you should be good.

When to Take It In

Taking your tire into a professional is always a good idea if you don't know anything about tire repair and you're nervous about doing it on your own. Additionally, taking your tire into a repair shop is recommended if you have a dented rim, your tire burst, or you think that you have a nail or a leak in it.

Are you interested in learning a little bit more about tire repair or do you need to take your car in to be looked at? If so, reach out to a tire shop near you.
