Why Does Your Car Lack Power?

You may consider your transmission, engine, and wheels as individual parts in your car. However, your car won't move or accelerate unless all three parts work together as one. Once your engine starts up, it sends power to the transmission. In turn, your transmission transfers power to the car's wheels. If your transmission can't receive and transfer power, your vehicle won't accelerate or go.

A number of problems could be wrong with your transmission, including slipping gears, low transmission fluid, and damaged seals. The transmission itself can slip and prevent the vehicle from accelerating. All of these issues can cause the engine to rev up and overheat.

Along with the transmission, your car could have something else wrong with it. The only way to be certain about the problem is to take your car to an auto mechanic.

How Do You Improve Acceleration?

An auto mechanic will need to run a diagnostic check on the engine and the transmission before they fix your car. If your engine is the reason why your car won't accelerate, a mechanic will fix it. The repairs may be as simple as flushing out the fuel tank or replacing the spark plugs.

If your transmission is responsible for your car's poor acceleration, a mechanic will do one or more of the following things:

• repair the gear parts in the transmission
• flush and change the fluids in the transmission
• adjust the hydraulic lines, fluid lines, and cylinders in the transmission

If a mechanic discovers something else wrong with your transmission, such as cracks in the housing and fluid lines, they'll seal and replace the parts. It may be necessary for you to get a new transmission installed in your vehicle. Depending on your car's make and model, it may take a few days or more to install the new auto transmission.
